The Cairns Arboretum

The James Cook University Cairns Arboretum illustrates the commitment to tropical sustainability through education. The Indigenous Use walk and the Wet Tropics walk are designed to increase understanding of our relationship with the natural world. Indigenous use stories pass on knowledge. The cultural diversity between Indigenous clans is revealed through their unique language names and cultural relationships with the natural world. The Cairns campus is situated on Yirrganydji and Djabugay lands (country). The language names and plant stories reflect the local culture of these clans.
